Paradise, Pottage and Potions: The Medieval Garden

A summer institute for educators will take place July 6-August 1, 2003 at
Pennsylvania State University and will cover different aspects of medieval
culture.
The Director for the Center for Medieval Studies at The Pennsylvania State
University, Dr Vickie Ziegler, has announced that a summer institute for
professional educators will take place this summer at Penn State. Funded by the
National Endowment for the Arts, the institue will cover many aspects of
medieval culture, but will feature study at Penn State's unique medieval
garden, which includes "a kitchen and medicinal garden, a pleasure ground, a
contemplation garden, medieval agronomy plots and the beginnings of a period
orchard."
Lecturers will include internationally known master teachers and field trips to
such sites as the Cloisters Museum in New York City are planned. Stipends are
available for 25 teachers. The deadline for application for this institute is
March 1, 2003.
