On April 17 and 18 Drea Leed, the owner of the Elizabethan Costuming Page and author of "The Well-Dress'd Peasant: 16th Century Workingwoman's Dress," will be presenting two FREE lectures at Southern Oregon University.
Leed has presented papers at the International Congress of Medieval Studies and teaches online at The Costume Classroom. She has published in Renaissance magazine and other journals on the topic of historic costume. Her current areas of research include sixteenth and seventeenth century masque and revels costume, 16th century wardrobe accounts, the 16th century tailoring industry and Renaissance dye recipes.
Leed's first lecture on Sunday, April 17 at 1 PM will center on "Choosing the Right Dress for You" and an overview of Elizabethan Stage Costumes. Her second lecture is in conjunction with Southern Oregon University's Center for Shakespeare Studies and the Hannon Library "Shakespeare in the Library" series. She will present "Elizabeth I, Fashion's Queen" on Monday, April 18, at 4 PM at the SOU Hannon Library. Leed will discuss Queen Elizabeth's use of fashion from a political, social, and economic perspective. This lecture includes a slide-show of sixteenth-century costume,and is part of the Newberry Library of Chicago's traveling exhibition on Elizabeth I.
