Queen Elizabeth II bestows honorary knighthood on Bill Gates

Bill Gates, the multibillionaire founder of Microsoft Corporation, has been named a Knight Commander of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II.

Although he will not be able to use the prefix "Sir", Gates is now permitted to place the initials "KBE" after his name. Her Majesty, upon counsel from government officials, granted the honorary title to Gates because of his charitable foundation's work in Britain and his contribution to the country's economic growth.
