Submitted by Milica on Tue, 2002-12-17 13:53
The Onassis Cultural Center on Fifth Avenue in New York is the site of a
wonderful small display of 15th-18th century Greek treasures from the Byzantine
& Christian Museum in Athens.
The Byzantine Empire ended with the fall of Constantinople in 1483, but its
cultural history continued with its own renaissance. In a small exhibit at the
Onassis Center in New York, visitors are treated to post-Byzantine treasures
including frescoes, early books and manuscripts, icons, liturical robes and
metalworks.
The exhibit opened in November and runs through February 28, 2003. Hours are Monday-Saturday, 10:00-6:00. There is no charge. |
