The winter has been spent in the castle, passing the time with a game of Nine Men's Morris or perhaps an attempt to improve on a cordial or a subtlety. Some have passed the time sewing by the window and gazing out at the snow and the early-setting sun. We are all anxious for spring to arrive, but as the winds of March pick up and the winter weather starts to leave us, we shall gather one more time in the great hall and challenge each other to games of skill and chance, compare our work at brewing and dessert-making, or perhaps just sit one more time together at the window for an afternoon of sewing and chatting. Come with us for the final days of wintering over in the castle before we emerge to celebrate the spring.
A games tourney will be held from 12:00 noon to 4:00 PM, along with a selection of other games to play that don't fit into the tournament format. Come and try your hand, and learn a new game or two, or test your skill against your fellow lord and lady! http://www.hartshorn-dale.org/games.php#games has a listing of some of the games and their descriptions and rules.
There will also be a novice brewing competition! Anyone may enter, regardless of their amount of brewing experience - however, this is labeled as a "novice" competition due to the relaxed categorial and documentation formats. Categories:
As in years past, a strictly-for-fun dessert and subtlety contest is planned, with attention to visual and gustatory appeal as well as authenticity.
The Shire of Hartshorn-dale is justly famed for our hospitality and feasts. A generous dayboard will be provided starting at 12:00 PM and throughout the afternoon. A formal feast is planned from 5:30 to 7 PM to permit time for dancing.
After the feast and starting at 7:30 PM, we hope you will join us for dancing with music provided by the well-loved and award winning Bhakaili Branslers! Once again Duchess Diana and Baron Hrolfr lead us in our favorite dances, and challenge all dancers to excel them in the Galliard.
The site is wet (period containers only please, unless actually entered in the novice brewing competition), handicap accessible, and has plenty of parking. Sadly, our four-legged fellows are not welcome at this site (perhaps they wintered over in the barn, anyway.)
Merchant space is free but limited and by prearrangement only. Please contact one of the autocrats if you would like merchanting space. Tables can be provided.
