The well-preserved gladius blade of Pompeii type and its scabbard mounts have been purchased from a Swiss collector. The sword features engraved figures and a dot-punched inscription of the owner's name.

A 2,000-year-old Roman infantry sword "autographed" by its original owner, has been added to the collection of Great Britain's Royal Armouries.
