Wirral May be Site of Historic 10th Century Battle

The Battle of Brunanburh, fought in 937 c.e., saw the defeat of the Vikings by the Anglo-Saxons. Now researchers believe they can place the epic battle at Wirral in England.

In a paper published in the Journal of the English Place-Name Society, Steve Harding stated that they had solved one of the "important loose ends" in the story of the Battle of Brunanburh by studying Viking place names in the area.
