Cumberland News: 1st Century Roman Armor Preserved in Clay

Hundreds of thousands of metal artifacts, including scale armor, from a Roman fort have been preserved by a layer of clay.
Scientists are thrilled with the discovery, near Carlisle, of the artifacts which include coins and, most importantly, bits of Roman scale armor. "Probably the most important and most unusual pieces have been the armour," said John Zant, of Oxford Archaeology North. |
