V & A Image Searching Now Available

Jadwiga Zajaczkowa reports on the Known World Librarians List about a new research resource from the Victoria and Albert Museum in London: online searching.

Jadwiga Zajaczkowa writes:

"...Search here for over 16,000 works and over 20,000 images from the V&A collections...ceramics, fashion, furniture, glass, metalwork, paintings, photographs, prints, sculpture, and textiles."

It was also noted that the site works best for known items in the collection rather than as a browsing tool.

"Having experimented with it, I think the search function works better if you know the collection and can work the search into known items. Searching for Mary Queen of Scots turns up those needlework pieces faster than going through the basic needlework search. Remember that spelling varies with the early items. The Bostock sampler is in under Bostocke. Another lady and I saw this in action at the museum when we were there in person in April. So glad it's up for everyone to use."
