In addition to digitized effects, modern epic films such as Troy and the upcoming Alexander have something that their 1950s counterparts did not: a political agenda. From Wolfgang Peterson's comparison of Achilles's war in the movie Troy and the current war in Iraq to Oliver Stone's assassination plots in Alexander, movemakers are bringing their own politics to film.
