Medievalist Norman Cantor Dies

Noted medievalist Norman Cantor is dead at 74, according to an article in the New York Times' obituary section.

Cantor's books, particularly his Civilization of the Middle Ages, were the introduction many students received to the medieval era in university classes. Other books, such as his highly personal Inventing the Middle Ages, were more controversial. Cantor retired in 1999 after over a career of over 30 years.
