Pilot Tribune: Barony creates "medieval village" for community festival

The Storm Lake Arts Council was looking for a way to follow their popular Balloon Days festival and hit upon a great idea: the Society for Creative Anachronism!

Members of the Barony of Coeur d'Ennui approched local planners about taking part in arts activities and were surprised to be given the opportunity to recreate a medieval village during Labor Day weekend.

"This is a great chance for people to learn about this period in time and all of the skills these people have mastered — weaving baskets, making soap, spinning string out of wool, doing archery with bows and arrows they have made themselves, and even hand-to-hand combat," said Sherise Gibson, secretary of the Arts Council.
