Ben Schragger pleads guilty to sex offense charges

Benjamin Schragger, former youth leader for the Shire of Eisental and East Kingdom Dean of Pages, has pleaded guilty but mentally ill to eleven counts of sexual and other inappropriate conduct with minors.

The abuse, which occurred while Schragger was acting in his capacity as youth fight instructor and leader, was stated by a psychologist to be a result of mental illness. He faces between five and 77-1/2 years in prison.

The abuse occurred while he was acting in his capacity as a youth leader (a title sanctioned by the SCA), so there's just no way to get around the media listing his position within the group. I haven't seen any comments such as, "Those loonies who dress is weird clothes and hit each other with sticks" just yet, but I'm sure they're not far off.

The damage has already been done, and the SCA has released an official statement. That's about all we're going to be allowed in the form of damage control.

For myself, I feel for the kids and their parents. The best thing the Society can do at this point is offer any and all support to the victims of these heinous acts.

Does anyone know the email for the society Public Relations person? I think someone really should make a response to the continuing description of "the Youth Director for the Society for Creative Anachronism" thing.

Besides the original article in the Morning Call, the story is now in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, and several other papers.

The SCA PR person probably should be prepared to be called for official comments

As disturbing as you may or may not find it, all the articles mention him being a former EK Dean of Pages. The society has made their position abindantly clear months ago. I'm not really sure what more they can do.
