"Authenticity is the goal" for East Kingdom SCA family

Since the late 1980s, Astrida and Stephen Schaeffer of North Berwick, Maine have lived parallel lives: modern careers and family life and the life of a 14th century family as members of the Society for Creative Anachronism. The Schaeffers discussed the SCA with Jeanne McCartin of Fosters.com. (photos)

Authenticity is the goal for the Schaeffers, who try to make most of their gear, especially for Pennsic. “Between the two of us, we outfit the family with all the material culture items we need,” Astrida says. When others shop for their vacation items, “we make everything.”
