Roman treasure found in the Hague

Archaeologists working on the site of road construction in the Hague, Netherlands were surprised to discover a treasure hoard in a Roman pot. The extent of the treasure was revealed recently at the annual De Reuvensdagen archaeological conference. (photo)

The treasure was found clumped together in the Roman pot and consisted of 107 Roman silver denarii, 3 pairs of silver bracelets, a large silver-plated coat pin and a number of glass beads probably belonging to a necklace.

The area is believed to have been a Roman farm settlement.
