"One of the most important Viking hoards ever found in Scotland" unearthed near Dumfriesshire

Among the more than 100 artifacts found at the site were an early, enameled, Christian cross and "possibly the largest silver Carolingian pot ever discovered, with its lid still in place." The hoard was believed to have been buried in the 9th or 10th century.
