Renaissance revels in Siouxland

For two weeks each June, residents of Sioux Falls, South Dakota are invited to step back in time with the entertainers of the Siouxland Renaissance Festival. Dorene Weinstein of the Argus Leader caught up with Anna Vorhes, executive chairwoman of the Siouxland Renaissance Association, to talk about the festival.

From the interview:

Q: What can I expect to see at the fair?

A: There are six active stages and 29 entertainers at the fair. There will be a tea party with a Renaissance fashion show both days. Look for the Tortuga Twins, who are fiddlers. There will be Renaissance singers, wine and mead tasting and a jousting tournament both days inside the Expo building.

Q: What is your favorite part of the fair?

A: I like being part of the scavenger hunt. You may be given a list of characters to talk to, and you'll have to find them somewhere on the grounds. I play Lady Anne Cooke Bacon — an English lady and scholar, wife of Sir Nicolas Bacon and mother of scientist Francis Bacon.
