London church with Shakespeare connection sought

St Leonard's church in Shoreditch, England, best known as the backdrop for the hit BBC series Rev, is believed to have been the site of the medieval church where Shakespeare worshiped. Now archaeologists plan to investigate the area in search of the original building.

St Leonard's is near the area where two Shakespearean-era theaters have been discovered, and may have inspired the famous tomb scene in the bard's Romeo and Juliet. Paul Turp, present vicar of St Leonard's, says: "Exploratory measurement work, which is non-invasive and uses new technology, would not harm the present church fabric in any way. If we do find some of that medieval church, I shall endeavour to have it formally protected. What might lie beneath is of great importance."
