For centuries, historians have debated the location of the Battle of Grunwald, fought 15 July 1410 between the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the German–Prussian Teutonic Knights. Now members of an international team will begin looking in the Great Stream Valley in Poland.
The project will include experts from Poland, Denmark, Norway and Lithuania, with plans to begin in September 2014. One of the largest battles of medieval Europe, Grunwald, also known as the First Battle of Tannenberg or the Battle of Žalgiris, has long been a source of legend, although the actual site of the battle has been lost. The team hopes to find graves of those killed in the conflict.
