Stinky surprise for Danish archaeologists

Archaeologists working on a site in Odense on Funen, Denmark were treated to an odiferous surprise recently with the discovry of 14th century barrels used to contain the contents of latrines.

The barrels are still in good condition and are expected to reveal the dietary habits of local residents as well as their originally-intended use for storage or transportation of food or other goods. The large archaeological site is open to the public every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 15:00.
