Vikings invade British Museum

Not since the 11th century have Vikings made such a big splash in England as with the opening of the new BP-sponsored exhibition at the British Museum in London, Vikings: life and legend. The exhibit opened march 6, 2014 and will close June 22. (photos)

The exhibit, six years in the making, showcases recent archaeological finds such as the mass grave of 50 headless skeletons and the first complete example of a Viking boat burial from the British mainland, as well as a tiny three-dimensional Valkyrie amulet and the remains of Roskilde 6, the longest Viking ship ever discovered.

Vkings: life and legend was organized by the British Museum, the National Museum of Denmark, and the Museum für Vor- und Frühgeschichte, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.
