Dream of building a medieval town comes true

Since 1967, Bert Geuten has dreamed of re-creating an authentic medieval town using period tools and techniques. Now the first step of that dream has come to pass. In the small German town of Me├čkirch in Baden-W├╝rttemberg, a team of craftsmen has started construction on a small church. (photos)

In time, Geuten plans to build a ninth century monastic settlement, complete with a 2,000-seat cathedral, and he has placed a wooden cross in the spot where the altar of that cathedral will stand. The project hopes to be open to the public as soon as possible.
