"If you can’t be what you want to be, what’s the point of growing up?”

As a child, Jay Secord wanted to grow up to be a knight. Today at 42, Secord may not be a knight, but he is an armorer with television and movie credits. Doug Williams of the San Diego Union-Tribune has the story.

Secord, who used to belong to the SCA, has a metal working shop in San Diego where he has crafted pieces for the Capital One Viking commercials, Brittany Spears, Thor and the Amazing Race. His metal work is a sideline to his regular lawncare business. "I would rather make a few dollars doing artwork than a whole lot of dollars pushing a mower," he said. "There’s something spiritually, mentally, emotionally fulfilling about doing something that is artistic.”
