Dagorhir rules at SMC

“This is the poor man’s SCA,” said Rob Nugent about the Dagorhir chapter at Southwestern Michigan College. “They fight in steel armor,” he said. “Foam is cheaper." The recent article appeared on the college's website. (photo)

“I was the one who brought it here,” said Nugent, who started the group in 2012. The interview describes the sport and the pleasures it brings. “From a guy’s perspective, I think we grow up wanting to be the hero. For most people, there’s no more iconic hero than the guy with the sword who kills the enemy and saves the day. Deep down, most people want this experience in their lives, but it’s not around in the modern day."

SMC's Dagorhir group meets Saturdays at noon in the field behind the Student Activity Center.
