The Plantagenet Alliance has not given up. They want the bones of their king. Who are these people? "We are the collateral [non-direct] descendants of Richard III, we speak on behalf of him, the only people who can speak on behalf of him," replied Vanessa Roe, the group's spokesperson.
The debate stems over the possession of the bones of Richard III, discovered in 2012 beneath a parking lot in Leicester, the city where the king was killed and vilified after death. The Alliance would like to see the remains interred in York, Richard's home base.
Some Alliance members are direct descendents of Richard III and strongly believe they need to voice their objections to the burial in Leicester. "We are his relatives and we decided to put our necks on the block and go down the legislative route," said Roe.
