The catharsis of "killing" your friends

“Sometimes I feel like Wendy, and these are my Lost Boys,” said Sandy McBride of Columbus, Ohio at a recent fighter practice in Griggs Reservoir Park by members of Fight Columbus (Barony of Blackfire Pass). Ken Gordon of the Columbus Dispatch has the story. (photos and video)

Fight Columbus is part of Dagorhir, a group that stresses the combat aspects of the Middle Ages and practices them using boffer weapons, but the group also enjoys the camaraderie of the sport. “There’s a social aspect to it,” said Henry Lester, 45, of the Clintonville neighborhood. “But there are few things as cathartic as being able to smack friends and not have it lead to disagreements and lawsuits.”
