Richard III has been identified. Now focus has shifted to the church where he was buried. The archaeological team from the University of Leicester, which discovered the remains of the king in 2012, plans to return to the site to further investigate Greyfriars Church.
Last year, three trenches were dug into the car park. This year's excavation hopes to uncover more of the eastern side of the church. "This will give us the chance to investigate the fuller story of the Greyfriars area, including more graves which were identified in the previous dig but not fully excavated," said project leader Richard Buckley. The city of Leicester will construct a viewing platform to give the public access to the site.
