Cyber-archaeology in Petra

In its March 2013 issue, Antiquity Magazine reports on a partnership of several universities and organizations to use the latest developments in computer science and engineering to analyze archaeological sites. In this instance, they focus on the UNESCO World Heritage, Petra Archaeological Park.

Recently the University of California, San Diego-California Institute of Telecommunications and Information Technology (UCSD-Calit2), the American Center of Oriental Research (ACOR) and the Department of Antiquities of Jordan in the Petra Archaeological Park joined forces for two days to see what they can discover about the site using cyber-archaeological techniques such as balloon photography, LiDAR, and photogrammetric 3D modelling.
