Saxon brooch found at site of Northampton Castle

Construction work to replace a train station in Northampton, England has unearthed "an ironstone wall, fragments of pottery and a Saxon brooch." (photo)

Archaeological excavations are now underway at the site hoping to reveal remnants of Northampton Castle, which once sat at the site of Castle Station, the construction site. The castle was constructed in 1084 and demolished in 1662.
