Additional Staffordshire finds declared treasure

Over 80 additional artifacts found in the area of the Staffordshire Hoard have been declared treasure. The gold and silver items were discovered near the original site when a field was ploughed. (photo)

The original Staffordshire Hoard was found by metal detector enthusiast Terry Herbert. The latest was discovered by a team from Archaeology Warwickshire, although Herbert, and land owner Fred Johnson, will benefit from the find. The newly-unearthed pieces will be added to the original collection held by the Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.
