London burials surprise archaeologists

The discovery of over 500 skeletons, some dating to the Middle Ages, has halted plans for the construction of a UKĀ£20m leisure centre in south-east London. BBC London's Nick Beake has a video report.

Experts were aware of the cemetery at Elephant and Castle, but had no idea of its extent. The cemetery was begun in the 11th century and hosted burials until the 18th century.
