Port near Birka larger than previously believed

Marine archaeologists working at a port near the ancient village of Birka, Sweden believe the port was larger than previously believed and may show evidence of the exensive trade system of the Norse.

Birka is located on the coast of the Bjorko island near Stockholm and is thought to be Sweden's oldest settlement. The port includes stone piers in deep water which may indicate that "a marketplace may have been based in the waters of the harbor."
