Jacob van Maerlant, popularly known as "father of all Dutch poets" is a famous dutch writer and poet of the 13th century (1230/1300), the first - or at least the most prolific - writer at the time to write in Dutch instead of Latin. His works include retelling of the arthurian legends, the history of Troy, a treaty on how to be a good ruler, a bestiary and more. We're taking his work as inspiration for this event.
The Activities we are planning will include working with some nice illuminations from manuscripts of Maerlants work, a short talk on Maerlants life and work, and archery. We'll also have an heraldic scavenger hunt in honor of her Majesty, including a children's version. Of course there will be room for dancing, hopefully with some dances that might have been danced in Maerlants time, singing and other merriment. Master Floris is working on some fighting scenario's inspired by Maerlants work.
The site has two large sleeping halls with bunk beds. Please bring your own sheets, pillowcases and sleeping bags. There is also space for tents.
