Thomas W. Hughes, President of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc., has announced that the SCA Board of Directors is now accepting applications for the position of Society Chirurgeon.
Mr. Hughes writes:
The Board of Directors of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. is currently accepting applications for the position of Society Chirurgeon. The Society Chirurgeon is the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc.’s corporate first aid officer; appointed by the Board of Directors and reporting to the President of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. This is an unpaid voluntary position with varying hours and requires strong attention to detail as well as good written and oral communication skills.
The Society Chirurgeon is required to be a warranted chirurgeon and fulfill the requirements outlined in The Society for Creative Anachronism Inc. Chirurgeon’s Handbook, for this office. Experience and knowledge of the provisions and administration of the Chirurgeonate is necessary. This officer appoints and removes Kingdom Chirurgeons in conjunction with the Crowns of the respective Kingdoms. The Society Chirurgeon supports the Kingdom Chirurgeons in addressing concerns, reviewing policies and facilitating the Uniform Administrative Sanction Process. Previous appointment as Kingdom Chirurgeon is desired, but not required.
Qualifications for the position include excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to work independently to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, and strong computer skills. Experience in a modern business setting, organizational ability and problem-solving skills are a must. Experience in a modern non-profit organization and prior experience at the Corporate or Society level of the SCA are desirable, but not required.
