"Historic" Byzantine site discovered in Israel

Israeli archeologists believe they may have discovered the site of a 6th century Byzantine church and stone quarry mentioned in a text by historian Procopius of Caesarea.

In The Buildings of Justinian, Procopius of Caesarea describes the construction of Nea Ekklesia of the Theotokos from large red rocks, including large columns resembling "flames of fire." Among recent finds at the site in Jerusalem is such a column.
