SCAdians compete in the "Olympics for armored combat"

Bill Woodbury and Simon Rohrich, of the Tempe, Arizona area, are off to represent the United States in international competition. No, it's not the Olympics, but the Battle of Nations, the world championship of armored combat held in Poland. Mike Sakal of the East Valley Tribune has the story.

Woodbury and Rohrich are members of the SCA and are competing with Team USA, the first American team to compete in the four-year old event.

“It’s the experience of a lifetime and a grand adventure,” Rohrich said. “I have butterflies, but I’m excited and looking forward to coming unhinged on someone. I love the elevated level of violence and gentlemanly sportsmanship. Even cage matches don’t have weapons. It’s something I’ve always enjoyed."
