Unlike Athena, who sprang fully formed from the head of Zeus, most artisans and scientists learn lessons as they go. It is no different for those in the Society. What was the "standard" when we
began has grown progressively more advanced as more information has become available through the Internet and Inter-Library Loans. More scholars have published research to which we have
access. Sometimes, an artisan will still choose to do something a "modern" way or a "theatrical" way (in the case of costume). Have we, as the general SCA participant, learned to spot the short cuts? Do we know the reasons?
