Theories about the fate of the "Lost Colony", a group of English colonists who founded a settlement in coastal North Carolina (USA), have ranged from disease to alien abduction. New evidence found on an English map may finally answer the question.
Modern imagery analysis of a 16th century map in the British Library has shown that there was a fort and possibly a settlement inland of the Roanoke Colony, but the information was removed in a later map correction.
The information may be used to direct future archaeological excavations.
