Experts gather to study historic Iona, Scotland

The island of Iona was recently the site of a gathering of international experts to study the island's carved stones and grave markers, and its unique history. The workshop was sponsored by Historic Scotland and the Iona community.

"We're pleased to host this conference with Historic Scotland as we seek to learn more about the faith and culture that shaped our nation - insights from the past which may inform us about the values we want to live by in Scotland today," said Peter Macdonald, leader of the Iona community. Research and findings from the workshop will be used to plan the celebration in 2013 marking the 1,450th anniversary of St Columba's arrival in 563 CE.
