Young boys blamed in burning of 13th century castle

Two boys, aged 11 and 12, were responsible for a fire that destroyed a 13th century castle in Slovakia. The fire started when they were trying to light up a cigarette.

Despite the extensive structural damage, 90% of the historic collection housed inside was saved. The fire destroyed the roof and melted three bells.

The boys will not face criminal charges because the age of criminal responsiblity in Slovakia is 15.
