Master Tirloch of Tallaght, Albus Ursus Herald in the Kingdom of Atlantia and former Society Treasurer, passed from this world on March 12, 2012.
Mistress Alisoun MacCoul of Elphane spoke the following on the SCA-HRLDS list:
It is with the deepest sadness that I must report the passing of Master Tirloch of Tallaght, Albus Ursus Herald, on March 12, 2012.
Master Tirloch was an indefatigable supporter of the College of Heralds of Atlantia (and purveyor of delicious tidbits to heralds and submitters alike). As long ago as the 1990s, hundreds of submitters received news of the fate of their submissions from his hands, and he was ever willing to serve as herald at court or on the field, as a protocol advisor or as a learned mentor to junior heralds and submitters at consult tables over nearly two decades.
To many of you he may be more familiar as the large teddy bear who shepherded so many through Pennsic Troll, regularly covering the midnight hours when weary travellers rolled onto site, and indeed serving as deputy or chief troll for many of the recent Pennsic Wars.
To still others, he may be familiar as Treasurer of the Society for several years in the early 2000s during which period he encountered and superbly overcame challenges which might well have cowed a lesser man.
And yet others may think of him as a talented cook of memorable feasts, large and small, as well as a redactor of recipes and researcher of period practice in a variety of cuisines, all of which he was most willing to share either as a recipe or as an actual dish capable of transporting you instantly centuries to the past.
I am sure that you all will join me in expressing our grief at this great loss and our sympathy to his wife, Mistress Anne of Carthew (currently kingdom exchequer of Atlantia), his household and the myriad of friends he had made over the years throughout the known world.
