Recent excavation for a "lift" inside York Minster has turned up the remains of 50 bodies in a charnel pit that probably dates back to the 12th century.
The bodies had apparently been disinterred during expansion around 1225 CE and re-buried, bones being carefully put back but not as individuals. A piece of Roman tile was also unearthed.
