The University of Ithra will be hosting an Ithra session in Shittimwoode on March 17-18 at our new site, the Roeder Home, 2600 Sunset Dr. in Bellingham. This is a smaller site, so register early to get your spot in your classes!
What is the University of Ithra?
The University of Ithra provides a place for those interested in Medieval Arts & Sciences to explore and further their learning. Although SCA membership is not necessary to participate, participants at Ithra must make some attempt at pre-17th century costume. Students must agree to obey all rules and regulations as set forth by the Regents and enforced by the Chancellor, instructors and staff.
Credits are tracked through the database, where you register and select your classes. This can be found at www.ithra.antir.sca.org. Select the session you wish to register for on the main page. If you have taken classes before, a file for you is already in the Ithra system. If you do not have your Password and User ID, please contact the Chancellor for assistance-do not create a new file or you will not have all your records in one place.
The Lector Artis and Lector Scientae degrees are awarded upon the completion of 70 credit hours. In order to attain a Lector degree, students need to take 34 credits of General required classes, 16 credits of required classes for one of the Lectors, plus 20 credits of elective classes. All Ithra courses are Pass/Fail. A credit hour usually equals an hour of class time.
Some classes require you to bring materials from home-these could be embroidery hoops and scissors, needle-nose pliers and hammers, or any number of other things. Be sure to check to see if you need to bring anything. All students should bring note-taking materials to all classes.
Instructors are required to fill out a self-evaluation and students are strongly encouraged to fill out evaluations of the instruction. All comments are confidential and you may hand it in directly to the chancellor's desk.
Have an idea for a class? Want to teach? Or do you want an instructor to offer a class? Let the Chancellor staff know!
