[EAS] Everyday Thynge - The Laird's Kitchen

The Shire of Caer Adamant is holding it's annual cookery themed event on March 3, 2012 and I am putting out a plea for teachers, A&S entries and A&S Displays.

This year's Cooking Thynge will focus on 'everyday' foods and cooking practices, rather than on the expensive 'spectacle' and feast foods that would not have been available to the average medieval person. Classes will focus on food preparation, supplies, recipes, etc. A secondary focus will be on 'everyday' SCA cooking as opposed to feast cooking, such as camp cooking, open fire cooking, food prep and storage, etc.

There will be a cooking themed A&S Competition where artisans are invited to enter dishes, cooking research or anything cooking related. Documentation is strongly encouraged. In addition, artisans will be invited to display both finished works and/or works in progress, of any theme.

If you are interested in teaching, please contact me at your first opportunity. Even if you are unsure if the class you are interested in teaching may not fit the theme, contact me anyway!

Current list of scheduled classes include:

  • Fighter Biscuits
  • Food for fighters - nutrition for energy and stamina
  • Sugar in Medieval Cookery: Facts and Myths
  • Period Bread
  • Bread making in bulk for events
  • Modern Food Prep - Health and Safety rules
  • Making Fresh Butter
  • Simple Soft Cheese
  • Authentic Hungarian Goulash - recipes and prep
  • Bigos - A Medieval Polish Dish
