Death leaves Prague... for two months

The skeletal figure of Death, along with his companions Vanity, Greed and Pleasure, has been removed from the famous medieval astronomical clock in the city of Prague for a period of two months. The animated figures will be painted to protect them from humidity. (photos)

Clock keeper Petr Skala assures that the clock will continue to operate during the repairs. Legend says that if the clock stops, the Czech capital faces catastrophe.

The astronomical clock was installed in Prague’s old-town hall in 1410. In addition to the figures, statues of the twelve apostles appear in doorways above the clock.
