The day of wine and board games

Consider this: a day lolling around a winery, a glass of wine or mead in your hand, and a game of Primero or Hnefatafl laid out before you. Such a day will be possible when the local SCA group invades Virginia's Hilltop Berry Farm for Medieval Games Day on January 28, 2012. Rebekah Carter of the NewsLeader (Staunton, Virginia) has the story.

Carter writes:

Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy games such as: Primero, a card game favored in the royal court of Queen Elizabeth I and the predecessor to modern poker; Hnefatafl, the Viking version of chess played in Northern Europe, the British Isles and Iceland; and backgammon, the classic dice and checker game that dates back more than 5,000 years.
