A Roman helmet found in Leicestershire, England is going on display after a 10 year restoration effort. The elaborate helmet dates to the 1st century CE.
The helmet was found in fragments along with many coins and pig bones. It is decorated with a laurel wreath, the bust of a woman, and other figures.
Made of iron and then covered in silver and gold leaf, the calvary helmet was probably used for ceremonial purposes. [photo and video]
