Come join Selviergard for a day of festivities, fun and frivolity! Their Majesties Rolf and Aurora will be there to celebrate the season with Their Highnesses Rurik Varyag and Trava. Let us commemorate the day for Their pleasure. This is the perfect time to break out the Byzantine garb!
The 9th Annual Rock Paper Scissors will determine the next Lord & Lady of Misrule. Your prowess could win a matching pair of Misrule Hats crafted by Mistress Heleyne! The Heavy Tourney will begin at noon with Rapier Tourney to follow. There will be an A&S class and a children's activity offered afterwards.
CONTESTS: Autocrat's Whim: create an ornament made of natural materials (fur, leather, wood, feathers, etc) to decorate the Yule tree. Prizes awarded for best child and best adult entries. A&S Competitions – Period lighting: Come help light the halls with your period lanterns, lamps, candles, chandeliers, etc.. Documentation on the style is required (but the material it's made out of can be something other than the usual – i.e. a pierced work lantern made of leather) and the site asks that no scented candles be burned – (you can always show off your scented candles outside if wanted).
Gingerbread: Tempt the masses with your favorite gingerbread recipe – to be judged on flavor by popular vote. Please provide an ingredient list in case of allergies. Bonus points if you can combine the two competitions, the gingerbread portion to be judged on taste.
Yule is a traditional time for storytelling. A prize will be offered to the best story told during Feast, be it one of blood and thunder or a childhood favorite, share your verbal skills in time honored fashion.
Hot cider, tea and coffee will be available throughout the day to warm you. Homemade bread and stews will be served for the evening meal with gingerbread offerings for dessert.
Bring a wrapped handmade item if you wish to participate in the Viking Gift Exchange. There will be a separate gift exchange for the smalls for which they bring a "treat" to share with their friends. Like pencils, cookies, or some other inexpensive trinket (we estimate a dozen children).
