"Treasure of the Shishman Dynasty" found in Bulgaria

Bulgarian archaeologist Nikolay Ovcharov has discovered 18 gold coins minted during the reign of 14th century Bulgarian Tsar Ivan Alexander. The coins were found during the excavation of the medieval fortress Urvich near Sofia.

The 18 coins have been described by Ovcharov as part of the legendary "treasure of the Shishman Dynasty," the last remaining of a great hoard when the fortress fell at the hands of the Ottoman Turksin the 14th century. "These coins were burred sometime between 1371 and 1372. This is precisely the "treasure" of the Shishman Dynasty since the rest of it has been stolen by treasure hunters," stated Ovcharov, who is also known as the "Bulgarian Indiana Jones."
