60 pairs of Roman shoes found at Scottish supermarket site

One of the largest caches of Roman shoes and sandals ever found in Scotland was discovered recently in Camelon, Scotland when workers at a supermarket construction site unearthed the footwear.

"I think they dumped the shoes over the side of the road leading into the fort," said Martin Cook, an archaeologist with AOC Archaeology Group about the shoes found in a ditch at the gateway of the second century fort built along the Antonine Wall.

Also found were coins, pottery, jewelry and animal bones.
